Hua Chiew TCM Hospital

What an informative day we had! We went to Hua Chiew Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital and learned a lot about Chinese Medicine and how it differs from Western Medicine. The main concept of TCM is the idea of Yin and Yang. Yang is always moving, bright, warm, and rising, where as Yin is stationary, dark, and falling. When someones Yin and Yang are in balance, their bodies are in harmony and in good health. However, when the balance is off, the patient may have diseases or various medical conditions. Some of the treatments in TCM include Acupuncture, Chinese Massage, and Herbs. These treatments are used to restore the balance of Yin and Yang in patients.

Above is a patient receiving a Chinese Massage. There are 361 points on the body that can be pressed and massaged in order relax the nearby muscle. This patient suffers from scoliosis. Some other conditions that Chinese Massage may help include back/neck pain, migraines, and arthritis.  This type of massage is very different from the Thai massages, as the TCM doctors only use their thumbs and hands. A Thai masseuse may use other body parts such as their elbows, knees, and feet to massage their patients.

Here we all are at the TCM Hospital!
