We spent some time at the Institute of Dermatology with Dr. Kampirapap. We spent the morning in lectures learning about different diseases such as leprosy, different mycetomas, and chromoblastomycosis. Dr. Kampirapap gave us an overview of prevalence, disease staging, etiology, methods of diagnosis, and specific treatment for each disease, with pictures. We were afterwards treated to a beautiful lunch and celebration of Dean Tanzer's 30th birthday (see picture below). After lunch, we were fortunate enough to spend some time in the clinic with Dr. Kampirapap seeing patients. It was very interesting to watch him interact with the patients, and to hear their past medical history. Some of these patients were being treated for over 4 years, and were still undergoing anti fungal therapy! It was also very interesting to hear that several of the patients we saw today were originally misdiagnosed, underwent surgical procedures, and had to seek additional help when the lesions or growths returned.  Unfortunately (or fortunately if you are squeamish), we were unable to obtain any photography of the patients' diseased lesions.
