Deal or No Deal at the Night Market

During our time in Chiang Mai we were able to visit different night markets which was quite a unique experience, as they are considered a must see when visiting. Although there is plenty of shopping to do during the week in the evening along the streets, the Sunday night market is the best place to find a variety of handmade crafts, clothing, jewelry, toys, food, and a variety of other things, all at an affordable price. In Thailand bartering is a common practice in the market setting as it is culturally accepted and expected. Vendors set their prices higher intentionally because of this and will often accept considerably lower prices to make a sale. The key to getting the best deals in the market is to not be afraid to walk away if the vendor is not willing to barter, or offer what you consider to be a fair price. In many instances, walking away will result in the vendor decreasing their "final offer" even more or even asking what price you are willing to pay (sometimes handing you a calculator to enter in the price). Never pay full price in the market!
